About us
The Oxford Gospel Choir, now celebrating its 20th year, is a vibrant community choir where everyone is welcome to join in singing an uplifting repertoire of Gospel and popular music that inspires and uplifts.
We’re a friendly and diverse group of singers from Oxfordshire, embracing all beliefs, ages, and abilities. Our rehearsals are as much about community and fun as they are about music, and we love coming together each week to share in the joy of singing.
We follow traditional Gospel teaching methods, learning by listening and copying rather than using music scores. This approach allows our songs to become part of us, so we can sing from memory, freeing us to dance, groove, and fully express the joy in our music.
And by the way, we sound pretty amazing! Not to brag, but we’re joint holders of the Guinness World Record for the largest-ever Gospel choir performance, singing alongside 1,200 other voices. We’ve also twice been finalists in the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year competition.
Our previous performances include:
-
Annual Summer, Easter and Christmas Charity Concerts
-
Cowley Road Carnival
-
Oxford Christmas Lights Festival
-
Last Choir Standing and BBC Choir of the Year competitions
-
London Community Gospel Choir’s 30th Anniversary Concert at the Royal Festival Hall
For upcoming performances please check out our Gigs page.
We are also the home to the Oxford Gospel Events Choir, a smaller session choir within the community choir that can be booked for events.
